Ashley William Robinson

Ashley William Robinson was born and raised in Paarl in the Western Cape. In his youth, Ashley used sport to escape his negative surroundings and to live a life that he could be proud of. At the age of five he started Martial Arts, but instead of merely training he began competing and grading. After a few years of competing Ashley became a SA amateur kickboxing champion. Today he is a professional athlete, MMA fighter, OCR runner, personal trainer, stuntman and coach. Amongst other esteemed titles, he holds the achievements of South African Kickboxing Champion 2012-2014, Fighter of the Year 2015-2016-2017, Muay Thai Record Holder 4-1 and Strong Man.

My passion for sports saved my life. It led me to become the best version of myself, to make better decisions and choose the right path.

Fria’s superfoods: Ashley, it seems you have many passions 🙂 Not only sport and fitness, but also being a role model to the youth…

Ashley RobinsonAbsolutely. My own childhood experiences have motivated me to spend time with the youth in my community. I believe that children learn from all their experiences – negative and positive – and the more you feed them positive energy the more likely it is they will grow into something special. All children have the potential to become extraordinary adults that contribute to society, but the results are driven by how they are moulded from an early age.

Fria’s superfoods: Well, I know that a lot of people will agree with you but you’re actually making the time and making a difference, so well done! Now, tell us a bit more about your career…

Ashley Robinson: I am very lucky that my passion as a youngster became my profession as an adult and through this I’ve developed a career as a stuntman. But luck wasn’t the only thing that got me here. I’ve worked day in and day out to make my dreams come true. There have been times when I’ve won and times that I’ve failed, but no matter what I’ve stayed motivated. Even when I was rejected for something I went back to the drawing board, trained twice as hard and came back stronger every single time until I was accepted.

Fria’s superfoods: And so, you describe yourself as a professional athlete, MMA fighter, OCR runner, personal trainer, stuntman and coach… and we know you’ve won loads of titles over the years. Is there anything you don’t do?!

Ashley Robinson: I try. No, really, there’s nothing to lose by trying. What’s that saying, “Try and fail, but don’t fail to try”, words to live by.

Fria’s superfoods: Ashley, you’re also an ambassador for Freeletics. Can you tell us more about it?

Ashley RobinsonFreeletics is a fitness app that uses Artificial Intelligence and personal coaching to learn from its users and progresses with them over time. I learnt about it through my work as a stuntman and after a few weeks of training using Freeletics I already noticed the difference.

I was faster, more powerful, driven, wiser and most importantly, mentally stronger. I became more confident about my strength and abilities. I realized that I could do anything I put my mind to. It’s the concept, the message behind it and the whole philosophy that proves that through this really tough form of sports, you can become anything you want to be. That’s what made me instantly fall in love with Freeletics.

Fria’s superfoods: What made you instantly fall in love with Fria’s Superfoods?

Ashley Robinson: The very first Fria’s treat that I tried was melt-in-your-mouth delicious and I was hooked!

Fria’s superfoods: Why did you want to become an ambassador for Fria’s Superfoods?

Ashley Robinson: They taste good, but they also work for me because I need the protein to keep my energy levels up. Because of the lifestyle I’ve chosen I try to eat healthy as well and Fria’s treats have no added sugar, no wheat, no processed ingredients, no preservatives, no colourants – it’s all wholefoods and activated goodness.
