My 2 cents on fitness, function and reaching your physical potential
When it comes to fitness and training my approach is less about the aesthetics and a lot more about the functionality. Why do we train? Besides for the obvious reasons of wanting to stay healthy or maintain a good physique?
In the world of parkour, martial arts and stunts our training is about far more, though. It’s about survival. Preparing the body and the mind for the rigors and demands of the chosen disciplines. Beyond that, it’s about preparing in the physical sense for whatever life may throw at you and staying in the game all the way to the end. In the game of Longevity, prevention is better than cure.
In my research I have found that we as human beings were at our most lethal, capable and powerful thousands of years ago when we still ran wild across the earth. Forests, mountains and the wide open plains were our homes and our playgrounds. We could run barefoot for miles on end, climb trees, scale sheer cliff walls and swim through large bodies of water. Our potential as hunters, gatherers, travelers and ultimately as survivors was far more realized than in today’s modern world. The Paleolithic era was a wild time to live in and it produced in us amazing abilities to adapt and overcome. Today I think we hardly glimpse the physical potential we are capable of. I can tell you one thing for certain though, going to the gym a couple of times a week and lifting weights will not unleash that wild potential in you. For that you need something far greater in scope, something that was born from a place of natural necessity and survival.
At first glance, Natural Method and Calisthenic training may seem like a step back from the progress we’ve made with all our fantastical machines, slick indoor gyms, magic pills, powders, gimmicks and gadgets. But once you realize how intricately this natural way of training is tied to the way our bodies were designed to function and develop, that is when you’ll come to realize it is by far the safest, most effective and harmonious way to develop and unleash that incredible potential. Nature will always be the best teacher. But don’t just take my word for it, do some research and dig into this for yourself. Better yet, put it to the test. You have absolutely nothing to lose and so much to gain.
The Evobility™ system focuses on functional, natural and sustained well-being. The outcome is a lean, toned and powerful body that is capable of complex motor skills, higher levels of performance and greater resistance to injury.
If you resonate with this perspective or want to know more, feel free to check out the Evobility™ website and see how we put this all into practice with the Evobility™ system.
The core components of Evobility:
- Georges Hébert’s natural method technique
- Quadrupedal movement and “animal flow”
As George Hebert wrote:
“The final goal of physical education is to make strong beings. In the purely physical sense, the Natural Method promotes the qualities of organic resistance, muscularity and speed, towards being able to walk, run, jump, move on all fours, to climb, to keep balance, to throw, lift, defend yourself and to swim”
